Estimated time to complete activity: 90 minutes
Target Audience
This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of nurses, physicians, and other health and legal professionals involved in the treatment and care of victims of sexual assault and domestic violence.
Statement of Need/Program Overview
A review of the risks and potential problems for children who are felt to be victims of neglect. This population of children rarely receives the attention that other forms of maltreatment do. However this group of victims has potential long term consequences that can be as devastating as what victims of other abuse experience. And this is a population that has better potential for early recognition and intervention for the benefit of the child, and for the benefit of the caregivers so that they might function better in their role with this child.
Educational Objectives
After completing this activity, the participant should be better able to:
- Recognize the risks of neglect and potential problems for foster children.
- Identify potential risks of neglected children.
- Prepare a plan for better continuity of care for this population of children.
